The department's responsibilities on the territory of the Moravian-Silesian and Olomouc regions are as follows:
- ambient air quality measurements in the State air pollution monitoring network of the Czech Republic which consists of automated and manual monitoring stations and commercial measurements,
- measured data processing and evaluation,
- ambient air quality reporting and assessment,
- certificated dispersion modelling (Clean Air Act 86/2002, § 15).
Department?s staff publish the results of measurements and assessments and participate in scientific and educational activities and international co-operation as well.
Department?s staff responsibility is routine operation of air pollution monitoring network (sampling, maintenance of the instruments, application of SOP and QA/QC procedures, operation calibration etc.), transport of substances and samples to/from monitoring stations and from/to laboratories.
The PM evaluation by gravimetry and SO2 by ion chromatography is done in the laboratory on the regular basis.
The CHMI air pollution monitoring proved the compliance of sampling, measurements and laboratory analysis with strict requirements for the system of quality set by the international standard ČSN EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005 as testing laboratory no. 1460 accredited by the Czech Accreditation Institute (see www.cai.cz, section Accredited Bodies).
CHMI is authorized for ambient air quality measurements by the Ministry of Environment.
